I want to learn to play guitar, but I don’t know what kind of guitar to buy. I want to play pop/punk type music, and a friend suggested an electric-acoustic guitar. I’ve only played around with other people’s guitars before, but I really want to learn now. Any suggestions on guitars would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
You could invest in an electric/acousticse to stay in tune and the necks warp terribly, to the point where you can’t play them! Go to a real music store. One that specializes in guitars. Ask the sales person to demonstrate a few for you and to reccommend one for a beginner. Don’t buy a cheap one. They are usually hard to fret, and will make your fingers bleed. Very discouraging for a beginner!
I’m learning bass and currently don’t own one, so i need to know what a good bass guitar is for a beginner but i’m dedicated, and i’m willing to spend up to $400 on it.

I have started taking acoustic guitar lessons with a friend and would like to hear your opinion on songs to listen to for inspiration, and to become more familiar with the general style. I have pretty wide ranged tastes in music, but I am aiming for classical to modern rock.

A lot of old U2 and REM stuff is very easy. U2 tends to ride a chord progression through the whole song, REM creatively uses secondary dominants and major minors.
I’m getting some pretty good stuff going with a minor pentatonic on the lower strings but I just haven’t been able to groove as well on the b and high e strings. I want to learn those…flurries you know? Those flick off/ hammer on licks. Can you lend a hand?
Robert Johnson – Crossroad Blues
The opening lick (and most of the fills placed in the song) are played on the two highest strings but the guitar is tuned differently, it’s in open E or open A.

Now we are going to learn the names and positions of all the notes on your Bass. We will do this by playing a chromatic scale up and down the neck on each of the open strings. This will help you to familiarize yourself with the notes and eventually visualize the entire neck harmonically. Well also be introduced to enharmonics, which is when the same pitch will be named differently according to what key you are in and what direction you are moving on the neck. You will understand the difference between an A sharp and a B flat! We will also get used to using all four fingers to fret the notes and how to keep from having flying fingers so that your left hand will be in a good position to make it easy to get the notes out.
